North NOVA 2022 Review
Performance
We’ve tested two sizes of the NOVA II, 5.0 and 4.2, in wind ranging from 9 to 25+ Knots and small waves. Here are our findings.
Low End/Pumping: Like we said before, the NOVA II feels heavy on land and, of course, statically on the water but, once powered up and on the foil, it’s pretty light in the hands. Low end is pretty good and pumping is super efficient thanks to mini booms/rigid frame e low aspect.
Top End/Stability: the stiff frame of the NOVA II makes it stable and efficient even in the upper end. In fairly overpowered conditions, the frame, without the support of a tight canopy, can’t do miracles and the wing is less stable.
Maneuverability: handling is excellent thanks to the super direct control ensured by the mini booms and the limited wingspan.
Lift/Hangtime: Lift and hangtime are good.
Upwind performance: better than expected from a such a low aspect wing. In the correct windrange, the rigid frame allows the NOVA II to point upwind easily.
Downwind/wave performance: despite its weight, the NOVA II is surprisingly good. While grabbing the front handle, the NOVA II luffs out great without wandering or flipping.
Freestyle performance: the NOVA II is an excellent wing for freestyle. The mini booms coupled to the low aspect ratio make it a freestyle machine.
Freeride performance: the NOVA II is great for freeride. Again, the direct feeling provided by the mini booms along with its great maneuverability will make happy every freerider.
